INTERESTS

This Picture was taken just after graduation. ...or was it before?

Obviously I'm interested in movie and video making, but I do find time for other interests occasionally. Foremost, I love seeing movies (go figure?). Old movies, new movies, and especially independent movies are my favorite. I tend to like character movies such as those by Paul Thomas Anderson, however I really do like all the genres. I'm a visually interested person and this carries me to other visual, finer art forms. Paintings, sculptures, and photographs are like candy to me (eye candy). Landscapes and portraits/candids are the best.

I also love the outdoors. I hike, camp, bike, kayak, board (surf, snow, and sand), and just generally like to be outside. I have a 1977 Jeep that I like to take rock crawling and camping. Strangely, I also enjoy the hundreds of hours I've spent modifying and rebuilding the Jeep. I enjoy marine life and the beach. I love to sail–especially smaller boats where you're right there in the water. I also love to kite. Yeah, I know, I'm a little too old for kites. However, nothing relaxes me faster than taking a stunt kite up for a few loops and flips–well, almost nothing.

New Technologies have always been of interest to me too. I started taking apart my Dad's power tools when I was 4 years old, I completely dismantled a car when I was 7 (including putting a hammer through the windshield), and started building custom antennas for my CB radio when I was 11. I was on the Internet very early–before there was a world wide web. I belonged to AOL before they had their 50,000th customer. I've always liked computers and the Internet because of how quickly and dramatically they changed the way people interacted with each other. New technology has gotten so good and so cheap so fast, we take it for granted. This is great! ...as long as it works.

Lastly, but certainly not least, I love food and drink. Several people in my family have been chefs, and I've always been accustom to good food. Some of my favorites are Thai, Mexican, Italian, Mediterranean, BBQ, Cajun/Creole and Indian. Whether it's a big pot of some comfort food like Jambalaya or California cuisine (I don't really know what this is either), I enjoy it. I also like to cook. Italian and Thai are two that I'm halfway decent cooking. And drink? Well, I just graduated college. I like the dive-bars and I like the more sophisticated places ...the ones that have more glassware than just a shot glass and a pint glass. Although I've happily drank plenty of Coors-Lights and Jack Daniels shots, I also enjoy a hoppy IPA (like Rubicon Brewing's IPA), a good dry gin martini (Sapphire, of course), a decent Cabernet Sauvignon (like my parent's co-op label, Camalie) or an 18 year single malt Scotch. In addition to my fondness for cooking, I also like to mix drinks. My specialty? I have many, but one (of the more obscure) is called a "Fat Hoe on a Bike." It's one part tequila (1800), one part almond liqueur (Disaronno), and 4 parts Coke cola over ice. Garnish with a lemon. I didn't create it and I didn't name it, but it sure tastes good. Maybe I should call it something else. What do you think? Finally, what would a personal website be without pictures of me and my friends out and about? Check those out here.

If you actually read this whole thing and still want to know more, check back again because I'll have more links with pictures and elaborations on my non-movie interests.
